Community Activist Rev. Lucious D. Lyshous has called for a national boycott of the Disney movie “The Princess and the Frog.” At a press conference in the parking lot of King’s Liquor and Donuts, Rev. Lyshous called the animated film “derogaturgical” and “racialiciously negatory,” apparently outraged that the movie’s villain is a black man. The recently released family film is an update of the story “The Frog Prince,” set in New Orleans.

“With the villainous personage of the Dr. Facilier characterization, we encounter yet another stereotypist imaginoid of an evil African American man with funky teeth. And as usual, the brother gets vanquishized by the purificity of a heroic amphiboid. Typical Hollywood falsilisms!” Rev. Lyshous told the small crowd made up of octegenarians, Tyler Perry fans, and a couple homeless guys that wandered by.

“I didn’t understand everything he said, but now that I think of it I can’t believe Disney was able to get this past the censors! Where is the outcry? Where’s Oprah?” asked Kwesi Jabootee. “Cartoons are no place for controversy!”

Others on the street were less ready to take up Rev. Lyshous’ latest cause. “Did he even see that damn movie!!? Has he seen all the posters that show the movie’s about a black damn princess!!?” shouted “Loud” Lydia Cantrell. “That man’s a fool and Jesus thinks so, too!!!”

This is the tenth boycott the Reverend has called for in the past four months. Some of his previous campaigns have been waged against Al Roker, the comic strip “Little Bad Homeez,” the local coffee shop The Coffee Joint, and Addy Walker (the black “American Girl” doll), among others. Reverend Lyshous has promised to continue the fight against “The Pricess and the Frog.” He plans a march later this month from the Hollywood and Highland subway station to Disney’s El Capitan theatre, half a block away.

As Orlando’s Joint season one wraps up its run on blip.tv we are in full production of brand new episodes for season two. I am completely biased, but I think they are gonna be even better than season one! Expect to see a grip of new characters, some recognizable “guest” stars (in the South Park tradition) and more stupid stories that I hope will continue to entertain and offend.

I want to give a big shout-out to blip.tv co-founder Dina Kaplan, and Content Associate Aaron Sonnenberg for all their support and look forward to working with them on future web stuff.

If you haven’t already, make sure to stay connected thru the OJ e-newsletter or Facebook. I’ve also got a Tumblr page if you’re interested my ramblings about other projects I’m working on.

Thanks to everyone who has talked up the show, bought some swag, emailed us or found some other way to show love to this independent production! We are all looking forward to bringing you more craziness!

Magda arrived with a small crowd of decked-out young ladies who definitely did not look like they were wrestling fans.

Madjoint Nooz: First up I gotta ask, how many hot girls are you here with tonight?
Magda: Shit, that’s a good question… Carla, Xiomara, Raquel, Marta, Edna… no wait, Edna got nasty and went home. Oh, I forgot Jenny! Always forget that chica.

Sounds like it’s tough to keep track. I heard your nickname is “El Padrotio,” what does that mean?
Ah, some of my primos started calling me that back when girls started following me around… it kinda means “Little Pimp.”

You’re training to be a stunt-person, right?
Yeah! I’m taking karate class, I skateboard five times a week, and I jump cars on my dirtbike every weekend. Last Sunday I jumped Orlando’s car… I would’a cleared it, too, if the wind hadn’t kicked up. Good thing his ride is already a piece of mierde.

The first latina Supreme Court Justice was recently confirmed…
Orale! My tio Julio wants to get to the Supreme Court, too. He’s trying to sue that Taco Bell chihuahua for ripping off his kids show idea “Taco the Pero.” He still yells about going to the Supreme Court whenever he thinks about that.

Yeah, tell him good luck. But I was going to ask about who your biggest influences are.
Influences? You know, the usual… Bruce Lee, Vin Diesel, and of course El Burro Violente, who is gonna kick El Supermistico’s culo tonight! YEEEEAH!! (the ladies surrounding Madga giggle)

Well I can tell you have a busy night ahead of you so I’ll wrap it up.
Thanks, momma. We’re going to the Monster Truck Pull in Carson tomorrow, you wanna roll?

Okay! You got room for me?
You know it! You can use pinche Edna’s ticket.

Starting tomorrow, I'll be making the trek into the heart of geekdom this year to set up an Orlando's Joint table at the San Diego Comic-Con. Being a low-level comic geek, I've gone to the event a number of times over the years, but this is the first time I've nabbed a table in Artists Alley! Any Con-goers needing a break from the crowds of Jedi, Elves and Vulcans should come hang at table JJ-3. Check out the new OJ trading cards after the jump...

UPDATE: 07.26.09 (scroll down for more…)
I am officially Conned out! Comic-Con 2009 is now done and I’m making my way back to L.A. (traffic!!!). After 4 days either behind a table for hours or navigating overcrowded aisles, I am ready to return to the relative peace, quiet and solitude of Los Angeles.

Overall it was a great trip – lots of OJ swag is now out there in the world. The best part was meeting all the cool folks who stopped by the table and gave props to the series (or took a chance on something new and bought a DVD).

And big up to the Comic-Con staff who made sure the whole show ran smooth, even for us shady Artists Alley types. The only glitches I was involved in the whole 4 1/2 days was when I tried handing out postcard to peeps waiting in line for the Black Panel (a big enough violation that three security dudes rushed me!), and when my chair was stolen (I’m thinking some crazy groupie rushed off with it). Oh, and when I wandered too close to District 9:

UPDATE: 07.24.09
Okay, even though the OJ table is in a far corner of the convention hall, I am now grateful to not be stuck in the middle of the masses. The crowds here are overwhelming (and it’s not even Saturday yet). And while most peeps are crushing each other to grab the latest ‘exclusive’ collectible whatever, it’s good to talk up the show to the folks that are actually looking around for something that isn’t being marketed by a major studio or publisher.

I’ve been entering anyone who buys a trading card into a contest (drawings at 1 & 4 pm), and whoever has the card that I draw wins a DVD… folks love the giveaways. The rest of the time I’m dealing with surly socially-challenged teens who try to nab buttons for free without asking. Also met the funny dudes behind the web series Safety Geeks: SVI yesterday, very cool folks. More updates on the way…

Getting interviewed for bavfx.

No Sleep Till Comic-Con
Starting tomorrow, I’ll be making the trek into the heart of geekdom to set up an Orlando’s Joint table at the San Diego Comic-Con. Being a low-level comic geek, I’ve gone to the event a number of times over the years, but this is the first time I’ve nabbed a table in Artists Alley. While I’m skeptical about how busy I’ll be (I figure most of the folks trolling the Alley are gonna be looking for pencillers to draw them a Wolverine or Darth Maul sketch for ten bucks), I’m happy to not be wandering among the ever-increasing crowds.

I plan to post updates and pics here as the Con progresses, so keep checking back. And if you’re lucky enough to have tix to this sold-out event, come by table JJ-3 and say hey! Till I update, check out some of the OJ trading cards I’ll be hawking (along with DVDs, t-shirts, etc):

In this month's cultural advice column, Kwesi Jabootee tackles the question: is America really post-racial?

An excerpt from the Los Angeles Centennial’s cultural advice column “Ask Kwesi!”:

Yo, Kwesi,
Now that Obama is President I keep hearing the news shows saying we now live in post-racial America. Is this true?
– A Post-Black Man

Greetings, P-BM!
Is America post-racial just because ONE black man is President? My lord, I sure hope not! Especially since I make a living by sharing my vast Afrocentric knowledge and items for sale with anyone and everyone who hasn’t been to Africa or studied actual books about Africa. In fact, I’d say that American is now a PLUS-racial society. Black folks have even reclaimed Michael Jackson.

That’s right! Ever since Obama got elected, white people are more interested in black people than ever before. How do I know this? Because my bean pie sales have quadrupled. Five-tupled, in point of fact. Lately I’ve been setting up my Kommunity Kart on white-folk abundant streets and claiming that my pies are made using the same recipe that Obama’s family in Kenya use. Works like nobody’s business!

As Marcus Garvey once said, “Get up, mighty race! Do stuff!!” Something like that. In conclusion, don’t let the mass media conglomerates try to convince us that we’re post-Black… at least not before our reparations checks come in. We are PLUS-Black! And PLUS-Proud! HARAMBE!!!

Got a cultural question for Kwesi? Send it to mail@orlandosjoint.com.
